Longtime Estacada resident, Dorthy McCord, died on Monday, January 31, 2022, surrounded by family. She was 98. A graveside service will be held, 10:00 AM, Friday, February 11, 2022 at Willamette National Cemetery. Dorthy Helen Redding was born June 29, 1923, in Talent, Oregon to Samuel and Eva (Finley) Redding. Dorthy moved around a lot as a child, before marrying Thomas McCord on July 29, 1943 in Vancouver, Washington. When Thomas was in the Army, Dorthy made her home in Estacada. Upon his return, they moved around the state of Oregon before settling in California 1954. They returned to Oregon, and settled Portland then moved to Estacada in 1978. Dorthy spent her career taking care of her family, and raising their 9 children. After Tom’s retirement, they volunteered at the Gleaners until 2015. She enjoyed fishing, crafting, and making teddy bears. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, and celebrating holidays with them, surrounded and teaching them unconditional love. Survivors include her sister, Aliene Bell; daughter, Patricia Miranda; son, Robert (Patty) McCord; daughter, Judith (Mel) Murray; son, William (Jan) McCord; daughters, Linda (Pete) Gaul, Barbara (John) Scheurer; son, Ronald McCord; She was blessed 59 grandchildren 97 great grandchildren and 43 great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her infant daughter, Loretta in 1946, her husband of 77 years, Thomas McCord, and her son Thomas McCord.
