Former longtime Estacada resident, Duane Day, died on March 14, 2024, at his home in Lake Oswego with his family by his side at the age of 92 years old.
Duane Loren Day was born July 15, 1931, in Stayton, Oregon to Floyd and Neva (Smith) Day. He was raised in Estacada, graduated from Estacada High School, and continued his education at Oregon State University graduating with a bachelor’s degree in business. Duane married his beautiful wife, June (Harbert) Day on December 22nd, 1953. He served in the U.S. Armed Forces from May 26th, 1954, to 1962 when he was honorably discharged as a 1st Lieutenant.
In 1958 Duane began working for Estacada Telephone and Telegraph Co. and continued to lead and grow the company for nearly five decades. He steered the organization with unwavering dedication, visionary leadership, and an unparalleled commitment to excellence.
In addition to his commitment to his businesses, he was a dedicated philanthropist as well. Duane and June supported numerous organizations such as the City of Estacada, the Estacada School District, the Estacada Community Foundation, the Day Management Education Foundation, and countless hospitals and medical centers.
More important to him than any other role, Duane was a devoted family man. He cherished his role as a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. His love for his family was boundless, and his presence enriched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Duane is survived by his loving wife, June Day; their son Gordon day; his sister; Letamae Conrey; their grandchildren Lesley Buckley, Stephanie Elrod, Matt Day, Brooke Wheeler, Scott Crosby, Jessica Jackson, Jacob Day, and Mackenzie Day; and their 18 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
He is preceded in death by his son, Brad Day and daughter, Brenda Collins.
A celebration of his life will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Waverley Country Club at 1100 SE Waverly Drive, Portland, OR 97022.
