Lifetime Estacada/Eagle Creek Resident, Ed Richards died while hospitalized December 26, 2024.
Edwin Paxton Richards was born March 02, 1946 in Oregon City, Oregon to George and Alice (Smyser) Richards. He was raised in Eagle Creek and Estacada, where he graduated from high school. Ed married Janice Archer in 1968, they remained married for 51 years, until Janice passed in 2019.
Ed and Janice moved to Portland, Oregon for a brief period, then in 1974, he and Janice moved a home onto a piece of property next door to his mother Alice and two sisters, Geraldine and Susan. There he and Janice raised their 2 children.
Ed was a hard-working man, spending his entire career with the Corp. of Engineers, beginning in 1967 then transferred to the U.S. Forest Service in 1974. He retired from the U.S. Forest Service in 2002.
In Eds retirement years, he spent many nights playing poker with some very close friends. Ed also loved being a grandpa and spent numerous hours with his 3 grandchildren, and most recently was the best Great Grandfather to his 4 Great Grand Boys!
Ed was the third of four children and is survived by his 2 sisters Geraldine Richards, and Susan Richards. Additionally, survivors include his daughter Mary Wilson, his son, caregiver and best friend Jeff Richards, Grand Children Brittiany (Wilson) Gipe, Jake and George Richards, and 4 Great Grand Children, Liam, Parker, Cohen, and Greyson Gipe.
