Gene Leonard Mantei was born Feb. 05, 1947 to Oswald and Alma (Erickson) Mantei in Portland, Oregon. He passed away peacefully at home in his sleep Dec.11,2020 surrounded by his loving family members. He was the second of five children. At the age of 12 Gene moved to the family farm in Damascus Oregon where he had many stories of life on the farm. He attended Damascus Union School, Gresham High School graduating in 1966, then majoring in Machining at Clackamas Community College where he received a certificate in 1967 as well as joining the Army National Guard where he was a Reservist for a number of years. Gene spent his life working in the HVAC trade. At one point owning and operating his own business Tri County Heating. Gene married Laurie Meecham and they had two children Dennis Mantei and Jennifer Endres. Later he met and married Denise Hemenway in 1997 becoming a stepfather to Brandon and Ryan Hemenway, along with having two more children Teresa Yandell and Matthew Mantei. Additionally, Gene loved hunting, fishing, camping, farming, and gardening as well as music and dancing. He was very steadfast and made sure his family was well cared for. An example of that was, fixing things whether it was a car, pipe, attitude, or broken heart. Gene will be greatly missed! Gene is survived by his second wife Denise; his six children and their spouses along with eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
