It is with immense joy in our hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Hilde Cook of Colton, Oregon, who joined the angels in Heaven on December 27, 2024, and now rests in the arms of Jesus Christ. Although she is deeply missed in this earthly life, we find great comfort in knowing that we will see her again and that she is free from the worries and pains of this world. Her faith and trust in God was unshakable. She led by example and greatly influenced the lives of those around her through Christ.
Hilde Mizee Cook was born to Abraham and Dixie Mizee of Tillamook, Oregon, on August 22, 1951. She would be sure to correct you, “it’s spelled with an 'e,' pronounced as an 'a.'” As the youngest of four children, she was affectionately known as the “baby” of the family. Her surviving older siblings are Hans, Maaike, and Bart. They grew up in a loving Dutch family along the Oregon coast in Netarts Bay. Her father, mother, and two oldest siblings immigrated to the United States from Holland in 1948.
In January 1985, Hilde fell in love and married Ronald Dale Cook. They eagerly established a home together in Colton, Oregon. Hilde was immediately blessed with a stepson, Sean, and later gave birth to two daughters, Sheena and Corina. She devoted her time and love to raising her children, as having a family was a dream come true for her.
Hilde also had the privilege of becoming a grandmother. Sean provided her with three grandchildren: Jonathan, Ryan, and Kyle. Additionally, her daughter Sheena and her husband Keith welcomed four more grandchildren: Chloe, Caleb, Liam, and Ella. These children were the light of her life, and she took great pride in the name "Gaga", given to her by Chloe.
With a caregiver's heart, Hilde dedicated much of her working career to helping others. Her time at Shriners Children's Hospital was a highlight of her life, bringing her immense joy. She fondly recalls it as “a reward, not a job.” Additionally, she is remembered for her in-home daycare, where she lovingly cared for many children in the Colton community. Hilde was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, embodying the true essence of selflessness.
Hilde loved nature dearly. She spent many years doing freelance nature photography. Nature also drew her passion for bike riding. She could always be found riding up and down her dead end road, cherishing this time as a special communion with God. She proudly boasted that in one year, she rode 3,000 miles back and forth. Additionally, she spent countless hours in her garden, where she delighted in discovering every new bud and eagerly sharing her finds with others.
She was a remarkable woman to many—a daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, friend, and neighbor. Her memory and legacy will always be cherished. Until we meet again.
