Estacada

Lloyd Barry Nielson was born August 22, 1932 to Niels Merrill and Flora Genier Nielson in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. He was the youngest of 5 children; Audrey (Shinall), Donald, Douglas and Gene. He attended schools in Lethbridge, Vancouver BC and graduated high school in Portland, Oregon in 1950. He began working for Pacific NW Bell telephone company as a lineman, and pursued his private pilot’s license, and sought to be a member of the Air Force.

However, he was inducted into the US Army and served in the Korean War as a communications specialist. During his service, he received the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal, and achieved the rank of Corporal. After his Army service, he was a member of the Oregon National Guard for many years, and later served as Staff Sergeant of the 2nd Battalion Field Artillery Unit with his son, Lloyd Barry, Jr. He began his career with the Portland Police Bureau in 1961 and served for over 25 years, as a detective and Sergeant in the criminology and fingerprint department. He developed specialized fingerprint analysis techniques that are still used to this day.

After his return from Korea, he married Elouise Parker DeFoe, in 1957, and they raised 5 children, Patricia, Michelle, Cherie, Lloyd Barry, Jr, and Andre Christian Michael, as well as many foster children. He remarried in 1978 to Treva Arleta Johnson, and they enjoyed raising cattle and their champion endurance Tennessee Walker, Raj, on their farm by Scouter’s Mountain, and enjoyed their longtime friendship with Everett & Annie Bell. Treva passed from cancer in 1999. He then moved to Estacada, with L. Barry, Jr. and Tamara, where they became Christmas tree farmers.

Lloyd was a member of the LDS church for his entire life, and was looking forward to reuniting with his large family that have gone before him. He is survived by Cherie (Dennis) Grube, Lloyd Barry (Tamara) Nielson, Jr., Andre (Helen) Trego, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews who all will miss his sense of humor and many, many stories.

Lloyd will be interred at the Willamette National Cemetery with Treva. At the request of Lloyd, there will be no services at this time.
