Peggy Clayville

August 15, 1924 — August 1, 2018

Lila “Peggy” Margaret Clayville, 93, of La Grande, passed away on Wednesday, August 1, 2018, at her residence in La Grande surrounded by her family. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Peggy was born on August 15, 1924, in Amherst, South Dakota to Dennis and Zelda (Borchers) Dempsey. She resided in Estacada, OR, Cove OR, and La Grande, OR. She was married to Robert Aden Clayville for 72 years.

Peggy and Robert owned a funeral home in Estacada, Oregon for 30 years. During her retirement after the funeral business, she owned a residential care home in Loma Linda, CA. Her family, friends and her church were her life. She was an active member of the Cove Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Peggy was a fun loving, outgoing, and vivacious lady who loved people. Her motto was “the more the merrier” when it came to family and friends getting together. She was loved by all and one of those people that you loved to be with. She especially really loved babies and children. Many of her photos have her holding and kissing her grandbabies or great grandbabies. She will be greatly missed.

Peggy is survived by her husband, Robert “Bob”; children, Dennis Clayville (Linda) of La Grande, OR, Diane Wells of Lewiston, ID and Don Clayville of Moses Lake, WA; her brother Charles Dempsey (Candy) of Gresham, OR; 9 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and 11 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dennis and Zelda; son, Douglas Clayville; her brother Don Dempsey; and her sister Doris Jean Teske.
