Longtime Eagle Creek resident Rick Farris died suddenly at a Portland area hospital on Wednesday, July 10, 2024. He was 73 years old.
A celebration of his life will be held at 3 p.m. on August 12, 2024, at the Monarch Hotel in Clackamas.
Richard Glenn Farris was born September 27, 1950, in Vancouver, Washington, to Bill and Janice (DuPuis) Farris. He was raised in Tillamook, Oregon, before moving to Gresham and graduated from Centennial High School in 1968. After high school, he entered the US Navy and was stationed in Hawaii until honorably discharged in 1971. On May 25, 1974, Rick married Karen Mayer in Tillamook, Oregon; this past Spring, they celebrated 50 years in love. He started his career with Oak Lodge Fire District in 1977 and worked his fire service career until his retirement in 1999 from Clackamas Fire District. Prior to starting his fire service career, he was a meat cutter for Albertsons before owning and operating Farris Custom Butchery for 14 years in Beavercreek, Oregon.
Rick enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, and fishing with friends and family. He volunteered as a camp counselor for over 20 years with the Muscular Dystrophy Association. After retirement, he and Karen wintered in Lake Havasu, Arizona, and were Oregon State Park hosts on the Deschutes River in Oregon every Fall. Rick knew how to host a party and loved to cook for everyone!
Survivors include his wife, Karen; daughters, Nichole (Jeremy) Adamson; Shelby (John) Hopkins, brother Ron Farris; sisters, Lynne Cigler, JoAnn Farris, Monica Hotchkiss, Pam Dickie and Vickie Pottratz. Rick had seven grandchildren, Cody, Brandon, Jessica, Mckenna, Emma, Tucker, and Marjorie, and two great-grandchildren, Amelia and James.
Rick was loved by so many and became instant friends with everyone he met. He will be deeply missed. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wheel to Walk Foundation @ https://wheeltowalk.com/donate/
