Longtime Estacada resident, Tom McCord, died on Monday, May 27, 2019. He was 96. A graveside service with military honors will be held, 1:00 PM, Monday, June 3, 2019 at Willamette National Cemetery. Thomas Jefferson McCord was born November 13, 1922 in Iola, Kansas to Julius and Loretta (Prentice) McCord. As a young man, Tom moved to the Portland area to work in the shipyards. While living in Portland he met Dorthy. They married July 29, 1942 in Vancouver. He was inducted into the US Army January 11, 1942. While serving our country, He received a Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal, European African Middle Eastern Champaign Medal and American Campaign Medal. He was honorably discharged, November 4, 1945. He and Dorthy made their home in Portland for a time before moving to California. They moved back to the Portland area and started a used appliance business. They eventually settling in the Estacada area in 1978. For most of his working career, Tom ran heavy equipment for various places of employment including River Island Sand and Gravel for many years retiring in 19?? Tom enjoyed camping, fishing and spending time with is family. He was the president of The Country Music Club of Oregon. He and Dorthy volunteered at Clackamas County Gleaners for 27 years and later, at age 92, had to quit due to illness. Survivors include his wife of 77 years, Dorthy McCord; daughter, Patricia (Manny) Miranda; son, Robert (Patty) McCord; daughter, Judith (Mel) Murray; sons, Thomas (Yvonne) McCord, William (Jan) McCord; daughters, Linda (Pete) Barnett, Barbara (John) Scheurer; son, Ronald McCord; 34 grandchildren 89 great grandchildren and 24 great-great grandchildren. There is one more great grandchild and 2 more great-great grandchildren expected soon.
