Vincent Norris Smith was born December 23, 1923, in Greeley, Colorado to John and R. Evaline (Norris) Smith. He was raised in North Platte, Nebraska. During WWII he met Julie Stringer while he was stationed in Manchester, England. They married on August 25, 1946, in Vancouver, Washington. He graduated from Oregon State in 1954. They moved around Oregon settling in the Portland/Gresham area. In 1997 they moved to Albany. Vince was an accomplished microbiologist, college professor, and an award-winning educator. He developed the food science technology program at Mt. Hood Community College in 1968.
